Life With Leul

Well, it's been a while! Almost five months since my last post. Leul came home mid-November, we had Thanksgiving and Christmas, he started school, I went back to work, and here we are. I haven't wanted to post because I feel like I need to make some kind of insightful statement about older child adoption, but I just don't know what I want to say yet. It's still too fresh and raw.

You can read as much as you can get your hands on about older child adoption, but living it is different. It has been for me, anyway. Every time we feel we're taking a step forward, it seems like we take five back. We had a pretty good "honeymoon" period, and now life is extremely challenging. Every day is a roller coaster ride. Leul is a hurt child, and he's grieving his losses in difficult ways. This post pretty much nails it. A lot of his negative behaviors are directed in particular at me and other women. Leul's behavior is challenging all of our love, patience, knowledge, and creativity. There's just not one easy thing about it. But we know it's a season. Things will get better. We would appreciate your prayers in the meantime!

Leul is doing well in school. He's reading books and is doing some grade-appropriate math work. He even has his first spelling test today, which he actually seems excited about. He's also playing soccer and has his first game this Saturday.

Myles is doing okay with having a big brother. He likes having Leul around, but it breaks his heart to see his dad and Leul spend time together without him. Oh, the tears!

Please keep praying for us! And I'll try not to let another five months go by without an update. :)
